Rotmistrz Witold Pilecki
ur. 13 maja 1901 zamordowany w PRLu 25 maja 1948. Witold Pilecki ,pseudonimy Roman Jezierski, Tomasz Serafiński, Druh, Witold, był żołnierzem drugiej Rzeczypospolitej, założycielem Tajnej Armii Polskiej, a nastepnie żołnierzem Armii Krajowej. Jego raport z Auschwitz pozwolił Rządowi Polskiemu w Londynie przekonać aliantów że holakaust rzeczywiście ma miejsce.
Specjalnie pozwolił się aresztować i zesłać do Auschwitz by zebrać z tamtąd aktualne wiadomości i uciec. Podczas pobytu w obozie Pilecki zorganizował tam ruch oporu i już w 1940 roku poinformował aliantów o okrucieństawch które tam się działy. Uciekł z obozu w 1943 roku by pużniej brać udział w Powstaniu Warszawskim. Pozostał loyalny do Rządu Polskiego w Londynie I był zamordowany przez stalinowski Urząd Bezpieczeństawa na zarzuty szpiegostwa dla "obcego imperializmu", prawdopodobnie MI6.
Do roku 1989 informacja o nim, jego bohaterstwie I śmierci była trzymana w tajemnicy przez polski reżym komunistyczny. W 65 rocznicę uwolnienia obozu w Auschwitz Narodowy Bank Polski wydał monetę upamientniająca postać Rotmistza Witolda Pileckiego.
